Job Opportunity: Horticulturist

Are you passionate about creating and maintaining vibrant green spaces? We are looking for a Horticulturist to lead the planning, development, and upkeep of the university’s gardens, landscapes, and green areas.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Landscaping & Garden Maintenance

  • Design, develop, and maintain the university’s lawns, gardens, and green spaces.
  • Ensure the proper care and upkeep of plants, trees, shrubs, and flowers across the campus.
  • Plan and execute seasonal planting schedules.

2. Plant Health & Pest Management

  • Monitor plant health and diagnose diseases, pests, and nutrient deficiencies.
  • Implement eco-friendly pest control and fertilization programs.
  • Maintain soil health and irrigation systems for optimal plant growth.

3. Environmental & Sustainability Initiatives

  • Promote eco-friendly landscaping practices and sustainable plant care.
  • Develop water conservation strategies and improve irrigation efficiency.
  • Introduce native and drought-resistant plant species to enhance biodiversity.

4. Grounds & Staff Supervision

  • Supervise gardeners and groundskeeping staff, providing training where necessary.
  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of gardening tools and machinery.
  • Develop and implement work schedules for landscaping teams.

5. Research & Collaboration

  • Work with faculty and students on horticulture-related research projects.
  • Collaborate with departments on botanical initiatives, tree plantations, and sustainability programs.
  • Stay updated with advancements in horticulture and landscape management.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Horticulture, Botany, Agriculture, or a related field.
  • 5-8 years of experience in landscape maintenance, gardening, or nursery management.
  • Knowledge of plant species, soil management, and pest control techniques.
  • Familiarity with irrigation systems, fertilizers, and sustainable landscaping practices.
  • Experience in supervising and training gardening staff is preferred.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of horticultural principles and best practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills in plant health and landscape management.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and execute landscaping projects efficiently.
  • Good communication and leadership skills to manage teams and collaborate with university departments.
